Simple Friend's List organizer
I don't think anyone has touched in this before but I know this would be helpful for many many people. It would be amazing if we could organize our friend's list by making our own subcategories that we could name.
For example, we can add a new category named "VQ partners" and in that sublist we can add the people we usually VQ with, and in other lists we can put "Codex Partners" and add people we usually codex with.
It just makes sense to have this, I always add tons of people for certain things but I can't keep track of 100 people and what I did with them. We already have a similar system with the template saves so why not with the friends list?

I heard once that Nasa spent millions on a pen that wouldn't leak in space. I also heard that the Russians just used a pencil..Not sure of the truth of it, but...
Have you ever heard of a text doc or a notepad and pencil?

This is a video game. We don't need to write down IGN's of other player's in a notebook.

I disagree, I've always had a notebook for this type of game. Handy you know, be it for writing down buddies names and info, or planning builds in your lunch break at work.
P&P is still the best way to go for rpg's IMO. D&D was/is good for a reason.

Signed because it's a simple feature that should have been added when the game was released. Either groups or a text area.
And you're clearly trolling with the pen and paper thing. Generally you're suppose to make it sound like you're serious.

Trolling my ass. I'm dead serious. Anyone too silly to have a notepad handy for simple things like that needs to be eaten. By a troll.
*Edit: Text area, otherwise known as a player journal. Not part of the friends list, so less clutter, cleaner overall. On that you will get no disagreements at all from me. It was a core feature of Neverwinter Nights from day 1, and was very handy. Still very handy to copy it from time to time, at least to a text doc, better still if it's stored in with your templates etc as a text doc so u can just print it. I'm still 100% sold on p&p for hard copies of important stuff. Wiped your template folder by accident lately?

How about an email system. Take away the friends list. Attach an email address to your "account name" (the one selected for your account that is in the Account tab when pressing H) and have it be like [email protected]
Have people be able to send and recieve messages thus making it easier to organize things and to have more space for all your contacts. Would also like a more useful IM feature then PMing, seems kinda weak and can get lost/messy when trading in Kam or Farming.
so /signed but more in depth

Dedicated friends list, like Steam, NwN, etc. Even better idea, just a pity it'll take a bit of work for that one. I daresay this will definately be a feature of GW2. It's too good a system for even aNet to ignore.

In EQ2 we had a server-side friends list, and it came with notes you could write about each friends entry, to keep it organized more. The notes part was client side only in..you guessed it... a .txt file. So it should be possible... as it wouldn't be taking server resources, only reads from the client side text file. Downside is, if you go to a friends house, you wouldn't have your notes.

Thumb drive and Storage folder in the app's main document storage folder is how I used to get away with that. Cut ure friends list, paste into folder, copy yours in, play, copy back when ure done. Bit of messing, but easily done in explorer in about 20 seconds.

Yeah...wouldn't harm the installation either, just eq2 had way too many files in it's directory...hoping GW would just keep it in the dat file.

I agree first poster is definitely being a troll, don't be stupid about it, some of you are making it waayyyy to complicated, all I want is to be able to organize the friends list so I know who I do what with. We don't need a player journal at all just little tabs above a list of names saying "farming buddies" or VQ buddies"

How is a simple Journal more complicated than what you propose? Are you saying that your idea is simpler than what is effectively in-game access to a text file?

The only friends I have in game are my guild and my real life friends who play the game.
I did have others in my friends list but they were just contacts and after a while I forgot who they were and why I added them.
So yes a tabbed friends list would be useful, I do use a notepad for the game but that's mainly for keeping a record of possible new builds and where I am up to in the game.
Really something for GW2 but it would be a good addition but not a priority.

Simple categories would be convienient, though I prefer Anet to implement categories for build templates first.

And I heard having a good memory was good. Seriously... wtf? I give this suggestion a big fat NO THANK YOU.
In the 4+ years I've played GW I've never ever had an issue remembering who each person was ojn my friends list. :\
Sigh...
